Book: Limitless

Author: Jim Kwik

I have learned and continue to learn from reading. Now I want to start sharing some of my favorite “take-aways” from the books I read. I’m starting with Jim Kwik’s Limitless (the idea to do this came to me while reading it). The PTA’s (Patricc’s Take Aways) that I pull from the book will be something I learned while reading and/or it’s something the book mentions that I’ve previously learned/implemented/tested, and felt it adds/has added value to me at some point.

Limitless was given to me by one friend and then separately recommended by another friend two months later. These two friends have given me quite a few “winner” suggestions in the past, so I took this as the Universe telling me something and I bumped it up in my books-to-read queue; boy am I glad.

Below I share my PTA’s. Enjoy!

PTA 1–3 Ways

The 3 ways to make a long-term behavior change:

  1. Epiphany
  2. Change of environment
  3. Taking baby steps (small incremental improvements)

Any single one can do it. Number 3, taking baby steps, requires consistency, but it works! Doing and having all three happen is something I’ve been fortunate to have experienced. These combined are why I’m a different (evolved) person today than I was 7 years ago. It’s impactful! So, start with being consistent on number 3 and the other two will eventually follow.

PTA 2 — Get vs Got

Replace “I’ve GOT to do this” to “I GET to do this”. While this is easy to implement, it has a pretty big impact. I had learned this before reading it in this book and it’s been a tactic I’ve come to use. To me, the impact comes down to a change of perspective & mindset to gratitude. Instead of being annoyed and saying to yourself, “Ugghh, I’ve GOT to do the laundry”, change it to “I’m fortunate that GET to do the laundry with a washing machine; it must of been a pain to have to wash by hand and then hang dry like my grandmother had to.” After saying that, it makes me want to be more grateful for my washer & dryer; maybe I’ve been taking them for granted.

PTA 3- The key to making yourself LIMITLESS is unlearning your false limitations.

His name is Bugscuffle, rather that’s the name I gave him. You might call yours by another name, but regardless of what you call him/her, you definitely have one of your own. He/she is also referred to as SELF-DOUBT.

We all have it to different degrees and it’s easy to

And, please don’t think Bugscuffle doesn’t come around anymore, he definitely still does anytime I’m challenging myself to do something out of my comfort zone. The only difference is now I recognize him so well, I can feel his presence as soon as he starts surfacing. Then, I simply say, “I see you there Bugscuffle, but I can’t hang out right now; I’m too busy changing the world.”

*This book had so many, so I’ve added more below with no context; enjoy!

  • Iceberg beliefs lie beneath the surface of the subconscious; they are deeply rooted and powerful.
  • It’s not your job to like, love, or respect me; it’s MINE.
  • Motivation isn’t something you HAVE (noun), it’s something you DO (verb). Coach Nick Saban (RTR!) states this in a slightly different way. Discipline isn’t something you have…
  • Finding passion isn’t about finding the right path or perfect profession. It’s about experimenting to see what ignites JOY!
  • Finding FLOW is the ultimate boon to motivation.
  • A BIG part of self-love is protecting your time and energy.
  • We first make our habits, then our habits make us.
  • If you can’t concentrate, you can’t manifest.
  • If you’re going to be a master, you have to study like a superhero.
  • There’s no such thing as a good memory and a bad memory; only a trained and untrained mind.
  • All perspectives should be challenged on a regular basis to confirm they are still viable.

What’s a book that you’ve recently that had some great take-aways?
